Lesson Plan Assignment
Theatre 392: Creative Dramatics (LCSC)
Lesson Plan Assignments Creative Dramatics – THEA 392 (50pts)

Purpose: To craft 2 practical lesson plans using creative drama to (1) teach a non-theatre subject and (2) use creative drama for social change. Students will create one lesson plan for each area. It is entirely up to you which you want to cover first.

Directions:
1. You will lead the class through both of your lesson plans. This means that everyone must be present on these days. Hold each other accountable. You cannot teach if you do not have students present!
∑ Between March 22 and April 7, two students/class will lead the class in their lesson. Each student will lead in two sessions, one lesson per assigned class.
∑ Each lesson plan and teaching session are worth 25 pts

2. For part one, theatre across the curriculum, select a specific non-theatre subject (i.e. the Civil War, Lewis & Clark, e.e. cummings, Darwin’s theory of evolution, etc). Then, devise a way to teach your subject using principles of creative dramatics. Be creative.

3. Follow the guidelines of the lesson plan template provided on the next page. The more specifics, the more details the better.

4. For part two, theatre for social change, select a social issue (racism, injustice, poverty, women’s rights, etc). Then, devise a way to use creative dramatics to address the social issue. Again, specifics are key.

Other Important Guidelines:
∑ Activities must be relevant to the objective(s). They must be thoroughly purpose driven.
∑ Activities must be well aimed at a specific age group.
∑ Entire lesson must be able to be completed in 15 to 45 minutes.
∑ On your presentation days, please bring a typed copy of your lesson plan for everyone in the class.
