On April 8-9, 2005, Moscow, Idaho's The Other Place Theatre Cooperative will host "A One Night Stand: A 24 Hour Arts Festival."
Your Latah County Arts and Culture Committee provided partial funding for this event. Many thanks to those folks!
Here's how it's going to play out. On March 8th, we will present 5 visual artists from variety of styles a poem by a local poet. The artists will have one month to each create a fully realized piece inspired by the poem.
On April 8th at 5:00pm, we will have a meeting and get together time for all participants: artists, playwrights, actors, directors, stage managers, videographers, etc. During that meeting, the playwrights will each choose a director. Directors will each choose two actors. The actors will choose a stage manager. All of these selections will be chosen at random.
At 6:00pm, the playwrights will be presented with the poem and the 5 works of art. They will have 12 hours to complete a 10 minute script for 2 actors. At 6:00am, the scripts will be presented to the directors and their casts. The playwrights will have until 7:00am to accomplish any necessary rewrites alongside their director and actors. Then, the playwrights will go away, and the directors and actors will have until 6:00pm to prepare the scripts for performance.
The show will open at 7:30pm with a 15 minute documentary of the previous 24 hours before the 5 new scripts perform. The 5 works of art will also be installed in or near the performance site. We will be performing at Moscow High School's auditorium.
T.O.P.’s mission is to foster ongoing artistic collaboration that promotes ensemble productions and to create new and enduring work. We are committed to promoting our region as a viable artistic force while exploring the connection between artists and their community.
We are looking for Five visual artists using a variety of mediums to participate in a 24-Hour Play Festival. The artists will be presented with a poem, by a local poet, to use as inspiration for the creation of a work moderate in size [2-D 18”x24” and 3-D at least 2 sq. ft]. A $25.00 stipend will be given to each selected artist for supplies. The artists will install their pieces at Moscow High School, Friday April 8. Artists will receive the poem one month in advance of the installation.
Five playwrights will be then given the same poem from which they will write a Ten Minute Play. The art works will serve as inspiration for the playwrights and be on display for the festival performance, Saturday, April 9. Each piece will be auctioned during the Pre-Show Gala. The artists will receive 50% of the selling amount for their piece.
