Back with On the Verge

And we're back...

The Christmas holidays were a great time with friends and family. I'm now back in Moscow, in the middle of rehearsals for Overmyer’s On the Verge, or the Geography of Yearning. We began rehearsing on Wednesday, January 8th. We spent the first week of rehearsals dredging through the script picking out each and every allusion. If you're interested, download our compiled findings here. Many thanks to my SM Jessica Yoder and ASM Jenny Schmidt for compiling this tome. Below are pictures of the cast during our table work sessions.

On Saturday, January 11th, I took the cast snowshoeing at Mt. Spokane State Park, just north of Spokane, Washington. We had to drive that far just to find snow. This year has been a bummer for snow in Northern Idaho. Anyway, I wanted the cast to have some experience “exploring and adventuring” before we got the show on its feet. It’s important that the actors be able to have some understanding of the “bushwhacking” required to explore. The three women’s roles are loosely based on the lives of several real woman explorers of the Victorian Era. These women trudged through jungles and across glaciers. I wanted the cast to have at least some understanding of this. Aside for that, I wanted to get the cast outside having a good time together. Both missions were accomplished.
