Tonight, we finished choreographing the vignettes, and began discussing their placement within the main text. We are not rehearsing next week due to the Thanksgiving holiday. My project for the week is to finish compiling the script into its final form.
We resume rehearsals on 12/2, and we'll be moving at full speed from that point until the 12/18 performance. I wish there was a way to squeeze in a few more performances. If that happens, we will probably be performing out of context with the environmental event, but that's fine with me. I'll have to see if scheduling more performances is even possible. The end of the semester is a busy time all around. The audience plays such a big role in this production. If nothing else, I'm considering inviting a series of test audiences to the final rehearsals.
In other news, there was an interesting hitch with Room 3 tonight. I walked into rehearsal to find a group of UI event staff unloading box after box of Christmas decorations into the space. After a brief civil discussion, I was told that it didn't matter who had given me permission to use the space. Apparently, I hadn't jumped through the right set of hoops. To make a long story shorter, I called her supervisor and got The Lesson on the official university event calendar. After some initial shock to the fact that I would want to use their storage closet for performance, the man-in-charge agreed to let me have the space. He told me, "Ok, but that room isn't very condusive to hosting an audience." I told him that that was the idea. Anyway, not only do I now have access to the space, the kind people at UI Events have agreed to have Room 3 unlocked prior to each rehearsal.
Below are the final 5 vignettes. I only wish a digital camera could accurately capture live theatre. Alas...
